Book v Movie – Unbroken

Last December I saw the movie Unbroken in theaters. It was gruesome, inspiring and true. I read the book Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand earlier this year. I thought I would share a movie/book review (compare/contrast).

The movie was graphic (it is a war movie after all), yet the way it portrays the strength of the human spirit is inspiring. I wrote a Motivational Monday post on this film in January.

There is so much more in the book than there simply was not time to cover in the film. As usual, the book was better than the movie (I would still recommend the movie) There is always so much more detail and development in the book version of any story than the screen adaptation (ie The Great Gatsby). The book continues beyond the end of the war and has other inspirational circumstances beyond survival.

Louis Zamperini’s life was an inspirational story of resilience, survival, God’s grace and forgiveness.

I highly recommend Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, and if you like that, Devil at My Heels and Don’t Give Up, Don’t Give In by Louis Zamperini are also interesting reads.

  1. […] Unbroken (Laura Hillenbrand) After seeing the Angelina Jolie film version of this true, World War II, story of survival last December, I wanted to read the book (because we all know – the book is always better). The book was good, but the book was even better. The book goes further in the life of Louis Zamperini after he returns home to America after being a POW for years in Japan. It is a good book about an inspiring life that survived difficult times and triumphed through grace and forgiveness. I wrote a full post about the book/film earlier that you can read here. […]
