Just to make sure you are caught up, Part 1 of this project can be found here, and Part 2 is available here.
On to the last step!
Mama and Papa are looking good and are ready to go, but they need a hutch (or something) and some provisions…
I picked this basket up at Hobby Lobby, and I also picked up some cheap green yarn (to serve as grass in the bottom of the basket), and a chipboard sign.
I then sat down and crocheted them a bountiful harvest of carrots. The pattern for these came from Adorable Fruits & Vegetables to Crochet: Delicious Decorations for Your Table by Marie Clesse.
The pattern tells you to make the carrot tops first (three per carrot). To be completely honest I had a lot of trouble understanding her carrot top pattern, so I did the best I could and just made up the rest as I went until I had enough tops.
The root part of her carrot pattern was so easy to understand and worked really well with my method of translating patterns.
The final results are precious and perfect for this little project.
I spray painted the chipboard sign I bought, simply to increase the contrast to the anemic looking basket. I then attached it using Gorilla Glue Gel Super Glue (my favorite adhesive – half of my dollhouse is held together with this stuff).
This basket is a bit deeper than I would have preferred so I added some packing materials/bubble wrap to the bottom to prop the bunnies up a bit, then I covered the padding with grassy green yarn (though you can’t even see that because the bunnies and carrots fill the basket well). Add in Mama and Papa. Sprinkle in copious carrots. Then say, “Tada!!!”
I hope y’all enjoyed this project as much as I did. I can’t look at them without smiling. Happy Easter to you and yours!
